4 Signs That You Need a New Air Conditioner

As with anything in this world, your air conditioner can wear out. It will not live forever.

Different air conditioners break down at different rates depending on a number of factors. These factors include everything from the weather they’re subjected to, to how well they’re maintained, to a variety of other factors.

Perhaps you’re worried about the state of your AC? Maybe you feel as if it’s on its last leg? If so, there are quite few signs you can look for. Here are 4 signs that you need a new air conditioner.

Signs That You Need a New Air Conditioner

  1. Unpleasant Noises

Have you heard any loud, screechy, and unpleasant noises coming from your air conditioning unit? If so, there’s a decent chance that the mechanical components of your AC are impaired in some way.

Noises such as these might not require a total air conditioner replacement, but they could very well indicate the need for a repair. The longer you let these noises exist, the more damage that will be done to your AC. And the more damage that’s done, the more money you’re going to have to spend for repairs in the long run.

So, if you hear these noises, it’s important to get an air conditioning specialist in to see your unit as soon as possible. air conditioner

  1. High Energy Bills

Perhaps your electricity bills have been skyrocketing as of late? Maybe they’re not any higher than usual, but are still higher than your neighbor’s bills? If so, your air conditioner could very well be the culprit.

There are a number of reasons for why your air conditioner could be upping the price of your energy bills. One reason is that it’s not as strong as it once was, and it must work harder than ever before. Another reason is that it quite simply isn’t as efficient as newer models of air conditioners on the market.

As time passes by, air conditioners get more and more efficient. A new model air conditioner will cost quite a bit of money in the short-term, but will pay huge dividends in the long run.

  1. Slow Functionality

Do you notice your air conditioner moving at a snail’s pace? Does it take hours for temperature changes to take effect? The strength and wellbeing of your air conditioning will affect its functionality speed, sometimes making it difficult for it to do its job at all.

As the motor of an AC grows weaker, it struggles to keep up with temperature changes. If a motor is half as strong as it once was, it will take twice as long to cool down a house.

Sometimes, a simple repair can get your AC back to normal. But often times, it will be necessary to purchase an entirely new unit altogether.

  1. Your A.C. is Old

As was noted above, after a while, your air conditioner will break down. There’s nothing you can do to prevent this.

While every air conditioner is different, in general, air conditioners last between 12 and 17 years. The older they get, the harder time they have performing their function. Not to mention, newer models of air conditioners are designed to be more energy efficient than older ones.

So, if your AC is reaching the 15-year mark, it might be time to seek out a new one. This is especially true if you’re not satisfied with your energy bills or cooling time.

Are You in Need of a New Air Conditioner?

If you checked a few boxes for the above signs that you need a new air conditioner, it might very well be time for you to purchase a new one. At the very least, a repair is needed.
